Training Peacebuilding and Local Governance

Last few places available!

The Hague Academy for Local Governance together with the Barcelona International Peace Centre is pleased to bring to your attention the training course Peacebuilding and Local Governance: an intensive course on the role of local governments in achieving peace, security and reconstruction after violent conflict. There are still a few places available, so if you are interested please contact us at info@thehagueacademy.com

The course
As the government level closest to the citizens and provider of basic services and security, local authorities play a crucial role in strengthening state legitimacy from the bottom-up. During the training course Peacebuilding and Local Governance, we provide you with insights into how local governments in instable and violence-prone environments can be assisted to carry out their tasks and responsibilities in an effective and accountable manner. At the end of this course you will be equipped with the knowledge required to conceive, implement and engage with policies and programmes that are in line with international best practices. The course is primarily targeted at mid-career and senior staff of bilateral donors, multilateral agencies and NGOs who wish to be well-informed about cutting-edge developments in this important and expanding field.

Trainers

The latest international expertise and insights will be made available in this course, through a combination of lectures from visiting experts, exercises and study visits. Speakers include:
  • Jamie Boex, international fiscal policy expert and principal research associate at the Urban Institute in Washington;
  • Stephen Commins, expert in service delivery and governance in fragile areas and co-author of the World Bank’s  Development Report 2004 “Making Services Work for Poor People”;
  • Blair Glencorse, associate at The Institute for State Effectiveness and expert in institution building in countries such as Sierra Leone, Nepal and Afghanistan.
