The Hague Academy welcomes the cooperation with The Hague Institute for Global Justice

The Hague Academy for Local Governance is developing a research and training programme for fragile and post-conflict countries, together with the Van Vollenhoven Institute of the University of Leiden (VVI). The programme aims to develop knowledge and build capacity to promote state building from the bottom up.

VVI will execute an in-depth analysis of the functioning of the local governance system, seen in its rule of law context and the results of this research will be used by The Hague Academy in the development of a practice-oriented training curriculum, which includes a train-the-trainer programme. This approach is designed to ensure that the curriculum is tailored to the needs, in terms of capacity development, of relevant actors in the governance sector and, at the same time, to ensure that the programme can reach a meaningful scale. Guiding questions for both the research and the development of the training curriculum will be how to foster democratic practices, stimulate citizen participation and increase government accountability, transparency and efficiency.

The Hague Academy and VVI now have the opportunity to further develop this programme with the support of The Hague Institute for Global Justice. This newly established institute in The Hague aims to bring the best and most innovative knowledge from national and international sources, various disciplines, actors and geographic and cultural perspectives, together. By assembling the best multidisciplinary knowledge and expertise that the world has to offer, The Hague Institute for Global Justice operates as an independent center of expertise.

The Hague Academy looks forward to cooperate with The Hague Institute for Global Justice in the field of good governance.
