The EU and other development organisations are increasingly recognizing the important role of local authorities in reaching development objectives. The French EU Presidency defined local governance as one of their top priorities. In the EU-publication ´Changing the world locally´ (pdf) you can read 25 inspiring stories on development initiatives at the local level. The ‘European Development Cooperation Charter in Support of Local Governance’ aims at better coherence of initiatives from different European actors.
